| Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal |
It is no more news that the speaker of the lower chamber
defected to the APC, the withdrawal of his Aides and his recent fight back to
the FG. These issues has generated comments from many Nigerians amongst them is
Dickson Iroegbu a film maker and public analyst, who thinks Rt. Hon Tambuwal
has missed a golden opportunity to set the right precedence by resigning
honourably. He further quoted Section 109-(1) which states thus,
“A House
member shall vacate his seat in the House if – “being a person whose election
into the House was sponsored by a political party, he becomes a member of
another political party before the expiration of the period for which that
house was elected.
“Constitution should be Supreme
The Constitution of Nigeria is the supreme law of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria. Nigeria has had a series of constitutions. The current
constitution was enacted on 29 May 1999, inaugurating the Nigerian Fourth
Republic. No government of a federation anywhere in the world gangs up against itself.
Section109-(1): “A House member shall vacate his seat in the House if – “being
a person whose election into the House was sponsored by a political party, he
becomes a member of another political party before the expiration of the period
for which that house was elected. The spirit of law is the originality of the
new Nigeria we are yearning for in our country. It is therefore the duty of the
Nigerian Police to enforce the law, and the 1999 Constitution as Amended 2011
is the supreme law in our land.

| Comrade Dickson Iroegbu |
I personally think that the Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal
and all of us have missed a golden opportunity to set the right precedence. The
Speaker of the House of Representatives not resigning honourably is terrible
precedence for a new Nigeria. It smears the National Honour conferred on him by
the government; it damages the integrity of our sovereignty. We are a sovereign
nation only WHEN our constitution is held supreme at all times.”
